Flaky Water Heater Control - Update on the 'Free' Repair

I've been getting a number of comments on the Paloma MC-117 error code and heater problem (as posted here). A number of people were upset that they did not get the free repair that I received.

So I contacted Rheem who handles Paloma heaters in Singapore, asking for an official response. This is what I got back from them:

"With regards to the faulty control board on Paloma heater, we would like to inform you that the warranty for Viz Holland has been expired, 18 months from TOP, which means until 30 September 2009. However, we only started to charge for the labour & transport of $65.00 from 01 Jan 2010 onwards and moreover we do not charge the part (control board - FOC) which has caused displaying an error code of 'Lo 76' ."

So there you have it. There is a labour/transport charge for the technician, but the part is still free. Hope this helps! Contact is still the same as in the original post.

Turn off the power if its an electric water heater. Turn off the water to the water heater by closing the valve on the cold water line. Its located on top of the water heater. The cold line is always to the right. Open a hot water tap inside the house. Air pressure will come out of the tap. Open the drain valve located at the bottom of the water heater. It looks like a hose bibb. Let a gallon or more out of the water heater. Do not allow anyone to use hot water for the time you are working on the water heater.5 easy solutions for heater problems
