Is our estate entrance dangerous?

As drivers, you'd have encountered the following by now:

  1. Lorry parked at bus lane, blocking your view of incoming traffic as you attempt to drive out of the car park onto Queensway.
  2. Cars barrelling down the side road, heading towards Holland Road at F1 speeds, making it hard for you to get onto the Queensway side road.
  3. You slow down to turn into the car park, but the car behind you doesn't realise you are making a sharp left at Viz instead of Holland Road, and continues to tailgate you. You slow to make a turn and he horns or gesticulates/swears as he drives past.
Have you encountered such problems? Is our entrance dangerous?

Let me know. Do you know that there's no less than 6 signs indicating Holland Road on the left, on the road leading towards Viz? INCLUDING the big one right in front of our estate entrance.

I've been in touch with LTA and as usual they claimed to have 'studied' the road situation around the estate entrance (ie they looked at a map) and said there's no issue. Typical.

would be good to have a U turn/and traffic light at commonwealth drive junction.
try suggesting it to LTA?

and i agree with you about cars tailgating before turning into the condo. mostly due to them not realising that we are turning in and the bus stop doesnt help being so close to the entrance.

Actually, we need a signage telling people that the condo entrance is here. Currently, the name of the condo is, frankly, not at eye level and therefore completely invisible. Which means, if you're driving towards the Viz entrance, no one knows that's the entrance. Nothing about that side road suggests "Condo Entrance". Can't see the barriers. Can't see the guard house. Can't see the condo signage. Which explains why,
1. Almost no taxi driver knows the name of the condo.
2. Every new guest misses the entrance and makes 2 U turns to try again.
3. Cars traveling along the road do not expect to see cars peeping out of the Viz Holland entrance, because no one knows it exists.

So there, my little rant about this. Hopefully, we can build a proper signage facing the correct direction. My only real peeve with the design so far.

On the flip side, no one knows about the existence of the condo means less viewings and more privacy. Which is not a bad thing.

Everything else, is pretty much perfect. :)

Hi Anonymous,

I've actually contacted LTA about this issue of poor signage and they completely brushed me off. I should put up the correspondences here in the near future. But I agree with you that there should be some form of signage and advance signage that points to the entrance of the condo. LTA said that it's not their policy to put such things up on public roads, despite my warning them that it's dangerous for cars trying to turn in, or get out of, the estate.

And of course, right in front of our entrance isn't a "Viz Holland" right turn sign but a large, bright green, "Holland Road" turn right sign!

With regards to a uturn at the commonwealth drive junction, for those who were not here pre-Viz, there WAS a U turn, right outside the McD Ridout Gdn entrance, which allows cars to turn without heading to the major Commonwealth Avenue junction (with the MRT line).

It was removed in 2004 I think, because our beloved LTA has decided that Queensway should become a through road joining PIE to the north, and AYE to the south. And with this, cars will be driving at mad speeds, and having a uturn there is not a good idea.

So they removed it. Now unless you're lucky enough to use Commonwealth Ave to drive home, everyone has to make that sloooow uturn.
